Time To SOAR

This academy is aimed to give the third year students the means to succeed after leaving the formal program. The focus will be on learning skills that will help them become capable and independent young adults. Classes offered will include:

• Conflict resolution
• Effective presentation
• Job Search and application process
• Dress for success and interview preparation
• Interview practice
• Financial planning
• Creating “Your Best Year Yet”

Some of the SOAR youth will be close to graduating from high school by this time. If funding permits, we plan to give the teens opportunities to visit post-secondary educational campuses in northern California – college field trips that their parents would have given them. We will introduce our young participants to emancipation services and college scholarship programs for foster youth that can continue to provide a safety net for SOAR youth upon leaving the formal program. Select graduates from the three year program will be invited to return once they reach age 18 to serve as academy youth counselors.
